INTO to ballot on industrial action

The Irish National Teachers Organisation is to ballot its members on industrial action.

The union representing primary school teachers has said the continued ban on promotion in schools and increasing workload has become "intolerable".

General Secretary of the INTO Sheila Nunan has said there is no decision yet on possible industrial action before the summer.

“What we attend to do initially is to survey the particular schools that have been most acutely hit,” said Nunan

“In the first instance we’ll ballot our members with a view to non-cooperation with Department policies, the second thing then is we will ballot particular schools that have been affected.

“We have no decision to ballot and close schools at this point.”
