Ireland's pre-schoolers will soon be getting a visit from the inspector.
Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan wants to check the quality of education being provided in facilities like crèches around the country.
She is planning to recruit between 8 and 10 full time inspectors for the job from next year, but their visits would aim to be "supportive and not judgemental".
A review of the qualifications for those working in the area is already underway.
