Inquest into death of Dhara Kivlehan opens in Leitrim

An inquest is to get underway in Co Leitrim today into the death of Dhara Kivlehan, who died in 2010 four days after giving birth at Sligo General Hospital.

The 28-year-old - who was originally from India - had been living in Dromahair with her husband.

She died from multi-organ failure at Belfast Victoria Hospital on September 28, 2010, after suffering a severe strain of pre-eclampsia.

Four days earlier she had given birth to a baby boy at Sligo General Hospital.

A request to have an inquest in the Republic of Ireland was initially refused, however the Attorney General since directed the coroner in Sligo/Leitrim to hold one.

It gets underway this morning at Carrick-on-Shannon before Coroner Eamon McGowan.
