INMO nurses to begin action against staff shortages
Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) at St Camillus Hospital in Limerick are to start a work-to-rule this morning.
The action comes seven months after nurses told the HSE that the clinical care of patients had being compromised by ongoing staff shortages.
There are currently around 15 vacant nursing posts at the hospital.
INMO spokesperson Mary Fogarty says the care of the patients has been impacted.
She said: "Members have described as not having adequate time to feed the patients, to administer medication, that's often late.
"There are risks in terms of not meeting the Hiqa standards and there are also risks for themselves being posed in terms of standards as registered nurses with the Nurses Registry of Ireland.
"They have documented this to the HSE as far back as September, but as of yet the HSE have not taken appropriate action."
