Indian ambassador to meet Tánaiste over Savita death

The Indian ambassador to Ireland, Debashish Chakravarti, has said he expects to meet with the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore later today - to discuss the death of Savita Halappanavar.

The 31-year-old dentist died at University College Hospital in Galway last month, after contracting septicaemia during a miscarriage.

It is reported she was repeatedly refused a medical termination.

The ambassador said the circumstances of Savita's death is a cause of concern to the Indian Government and he hopes steps will be taken to avoid cases like this in the future.

The HSE is to publish the terms of reference of its investigation into the death later today.
