Independent TDs arrive at Government Buildings for talks on entering minority government

The Rural Alliance of Independent TDs have arrived at Government Buildings to recommence talks with Fine Gael, writes Daniel McConnell, political editor.

The Group of Five TDs - Mattie McGrath, Denis Naughten, Noel Grealish, Michael Harty and Michael Collins - arrived at 6pm to explore entering a minority government.

On their way in, the TDs said they wanted to hear the details of the deal struck between Fine Gael and Fianna Fail last Friday.

Mr Naughten said their support was contingent on their agenda being adopted.

He would not be drawn on whether he thought the talks would be concluded by Thursday, as suggested by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney yesterday.

Surprisingly they were joined by Senator Gerard Craughwell, who only resigned from the Independent Alliance last week.

Senator Craughwell said he was there to play his part in the talks.

He was accompanied by new Senator Victor Boyhan.

The Independent Alliance - Shane Ross, Finian McGrath, Kevin Boxer Moran, Sean Canney, Michael Fitzmaurice and John Halligan - have been locked in talks since this morning.

They are due to leave shortly.
