Ibrahim Halawa has written a letter to 'Ireland' questioning why "the people my parents voted for, to protect me in any land and under any sky, and have failed to bring me back to you".
In the letter he speaks of deeply missing his home in Bray and of his memories growing up in Ireland. Ibrahim was born in Dublin.
He has been imprisoned in Egypt since August 2013 and will shortly turn 21.
Campaigners, including Amnesty International, say the Dubliner's prolonged detention without trial and his treatment while behind bars amounts to torture.
In the letter received this week, Ibrahim poignantly asks to be brought home for burial if he dies away from Ireland.
His sister Somaia told us Ibrahim gave the letter to their mother when she visited him in Egypt. She took a photo of the letter and sent it to Somaia.
