IBM Ireland employee to appeal dismissal
An IBM Ireland employee who is trying to stop his dismissal over an expenses row has secured a High Court injunction restraining an appeal process that his lawyers say he has no faith in.
Lebanese national Fouad El Ammar is allegedly being let go for breaching business conduct guidelines.
Before working for IBM Ireland, Mr El Ammar took up a post in the legal department at IBM France where he says he was told to register as a student so the company could pay less for his work permit.
He says he was reimbursed the €761 college registration fee by a settlement agreement with his manager who told him he had missed a one-month deadline for filing expenses.
Having moved to Ireland he questioned about the payment at two meetings in March and May this year as part of an investigation into his former French manager.
He says he was told there was not a one-month time limit on expenses but at no stage was it suggested he had done anything wrong.
However the court heard on August 2 he was dismissed for allegedly breaching business conduct guidelines and was promptly escorted from IBM.
He is challenging his dismissal. He has now secured a court order stopping an appeal hearing this Wednesday that his lawyers say he has no confidence in.
