An investigation has been launched by the HSE into the death of a baby at Cavan General Hospital last month.

An investigation has been launched by the HSE into the death of a baby at Cavan General Hospital last month.

The hospital has confirmed that a clinical incident occurred on Saturday, April 26.

It is reported that the HSE has placed a consultant on administrative leave as part of the inquiry and the HSE said a "full and thorough investigation into this tragic event is now under way."

No adverse findings have been made against the doctor involved and the executive said it will keep hospital management informed as the investigation continues.

The executive also offered its deepest sympathies to the family involved who have requested privacy.
