It has emerged that the HSE will need a taxpayer bailout of almost €200m to keep operating until the end of the year.

It has been reported that TDs will be asked to sign off on €199m of extra funding later this week.

It is the eighth year in a row in which the HSE will have been unable to keep its spending within the limits set down at the start of the year.
