Howlin: Voters will reflect on what sort of Government they want on polling day

Minister Brendan Howlin says he is optimistic that support for the Labour Party will increase in the run-up to the General Election.

It comes as the Irish Examiner reports that Fine Gael is preparing an 'Operation Save Labour' campaign to try to get their Coalition partners above 10% support.

Minister Howlin admitted that he is not ecstatic about the current poll numbers, but insisted that they will increase closer to polling day.

"I'm not ecstatic that the Labour Party are still in single digits," he said.

"But we always believed it would be a slow recovery process.

"There is encouragement - support for the Government, and for what we've done, is increasing, and I think that people will reflect close to polling day on what sort of Government they want into the future."
