Howlin: Taoiseach telling Gilmore about plan to send civil servant to Callinan's house 'would have been better'
A Labour Minister has said that it "would have been better" if the Taoiseach met the former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore before a civil servant was sent to Martin Callinan's house.
Enda Kenny is facing a motion of no confidence over the Fennelly Commission report - which stated that he did not sack the Garda Commissioner - but that Mr Callinan's departure was triggered by a visit from a civil servant acting on his behalf.
Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin insisted that the report shows the Taoiseach did not intend to put pressure on Martin Callinan.
However, he said that Mr Kenny should have kept the Tánaiste in the loop.
"I suppose, in hindsight, it probably would have been better had that discussion taken place with the Tánaiste on the Monday."
