Howlin: Talks ongoing despite Draghi comments on promissory notes

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin has today refused to comment on the ECB president's declaration that there will not be a renegotiation of the Anglo promissory notes.

Earlier at a European parliament committee, Mario Draghi was asked if the terms of the deal could be renegotiated, to which he replied: "the answer is no".

Minister Howlin said negotiations "on a range of issues" are ongoing, however.

"I'm not going to respond to something that Mario Draghi or anybody else commented upon," he said.

"We're engaged right now with the troika, who are here, I've just left a meeting, in fact, with members of the troika, we have further meetings scheduled for tomorrow.

"Our negotiations on a range of issues that involve returning Irish economic sovereignty are ongoing."
