The Housing Bill 2014 is up for debate in the Dáil this evening.
The new legislation has come in for much criticism from opposition TD's who say it does not go far enough in addressing the housing crisis which sees six new people becoming homeless every day.
Under the Bill people in receipt of rent supplement will be transferred onto a new housing assistance payment (HAP) which will result in those currently waiting on social housing being removed from the waiting list.
A protest will take place outside the Dáil this evening in opposition to the introduction of the legislation.
