Household Charge registrations pass 900,000 mark

The number of people who have registered to pay the new household charge surpassed the 900,000 mark today.

According to Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) figures, the total estimated number of properties registered numbered 900,392 at midday today.

The figure is still far short of the 1.6-1.8 million households who are liable to pay the €100 charge.

Approximately 183,500 postal applications are to be processed according to today’s figures, 30,500 more than yesterday.

Those applications have boosted the figures to 900,392, though the estimated tallies received from local authorities on hand in offices are 26,500 lower – dropping from 71,000 yesterday to 44,500 today, according to LGMA statements.

The deadline to register and pay the charge came into effect on March 31 and therefore anyone who pays from now on will incur fines.
