Homeless man Connors to be sentenced for killing man he pushed under Dublin bus

A homeless man is to be sentenced today for killing an acquaintance by knocking him under a Dublin bus.

A jury found Edward Connors guilty in May following an eight-day manslaughter trial.

Eoghan Dudley died almost instantly from "catastrophic injuries" after going under the rear wheel of a bus on Dawson Street during rush-hour traffic.

An eyewitness gave evidence Edward Connors punched the 28-year-old immediately before he fell off the crowded footpath.

The defence argued he had in fact been trying to grab his friend to stop him falling.

Both men were heroin users at the time of the killing on December 6, 2012 and Connors told gardaí he was "off his head" on the head shop drug "snow blow".

The 30-year-old of no fixed abode and formerly of Bearna Park, Sandyford may avoid jail on the manslaughter charge - he is deaf and there is a lack of facilities for deaf people in prison.

Judge Patrick McCartan has described this as a dilemma.

Connors has also pleaded guilty to using a syringe to cause injury.
