Hogan refuses to change constituency names

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan has said he will not depart from any of the recommendations made by the Constituency Commission, including those on new constituency names.
Labour's Kevin Humphries had asked Minister Hogan to reconsider the recommendation to rename Dublin South East as Dublin Bay South. Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív wanted Galway West to be renamed Galway West-Mayo South.
Phil Hogan told an Oireachtas Committee that he would not change any of the new names.
"The Commission has always named the constituencies…(and) I know you would not like ministers interfering in that," he said.
"If I opened the floodgates, as it were, I would have a number of issues (to deal with)."
