Hogan confirms March 27 date for by-election to fill Shane McEntee seat

The Environment Minister Phil Hogan has confirmed that the Meath East by-election will take place on Wednesday, March 27.

However, Mr Hogan says the polling period will be reduced from 8am to 9pm in an effort to reduce costs.

The vacancy of a TD in the constituency arose following the sudden death of Junior Minister Shane McEntee in December.

It is expected his daughter Helen will contest the election for Fine Gael.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 13.
