HIQa draws up new standards for HSE providers
26/06/2012 - 17:02:20The health service will have to observe a new set of national standards that have been drawn up to protect patients and improve the quality of public healthcare.
Later this year, the Health Information and Quality Authority will begin monitoring HSE providers to ensure the 45 new standards are being met.
HIQA has said the standards are based on best international practice and are a first step in licensing hospitals and other healthcare providers.
Launching the new standards, the Health Minister James Reilly said that hospitals that do not comply with them could, in the future, be closed down.
