Higgins: Presidential election turning into beauty contest

Labour presidential hopeful Michael D Higgins said today that he is concerned that the presidential election is turning into a "beauty contest".

Labour presidential hopeful Michael D Higgins said today that he is concerned that the presidential election is turning into a "beauty contest".

His comments come after Independent candidate Sean Gallagher said over the weekend that the office should not be seen as a retirement home.

Mr. Higgins, 70, said that it should not matter how old or young the person is - what matters is their ability to do the job.
