Higgins expecting thousands to protest outside meeting of EU ministers

Protesters against the property tax are planning to march outside the meeting of EU Finance Ministers in Dublin Castle this afternoon.

Dublin West TD Joe Higgins from the Campaign Against Home and Water Taxes says the tax is completely unaffordable, and he is urging the Government not to go ahead with it.

He said that thousands of people will join their protest, which will leave Parnell Square at 12.30, and march across the city to Dublin Castle.

Deputy Higgins said that people just cannot afford to pay.

"There is a massive majority of people on low and middle incomes, unemployed and pensioners, who are opposed, absolutely, to this new tax, which they understand will be joined by a water tax if it is allowed to be implemented, and will be €1,000 and greater for every household and family within an appreciable period of time," he said.
