Pockets of flooding have been reported across Ireland after heavy rain swept through the country.

Pockets of flooding have been reported across Ireland after heavy rain swept through the country.

The north west appeared to be worst hit, with some roads impassable in counties Tyrone, Derry, Sligo and Donegal.

The Tyrone town of Omagh and its surroundings experienced particular difficulties with high water levels.

There were also reports of flooding as far south as Cork.

Stormy conditions knocked out power supply in the Carrickmines area of Dublin on Saturday night, with customers also cut off in counties Wexford, Donegal, Galway and Clare.

Met Éireann forecast persistent rain in the west throughout today, spreading eastwards to all areas later.

In Northern Ireland, a Met Office yellow rain warning was in place throughout the weekend through to 6pm on Sunday.

“Please be aware that this will lead to difficult driving conditions and could cause localised flooding, particularly in the west,” said the forecaster.

The Gardaí and PSNI urged road users across the country to exercise extra caution due to surface water.
