The Health Minister James Reilly has told hospitals that their budgets will be cut unless they reduce waiting times to a maximum of 12 months by the end of the year.

The Health Minister James Reilly has told hospitals that their budgets will be cut unless they reduce waiting times to a maximum of 12 months by the end of the year.

Speaking at the MacGill Summer School in Glenties Dr Reilly said all public hospitals are being instructed to ensure that they have no patients waiting longer than 12 months by the end of the year.

He said failure to do so would result in hospital budgets being reduced, and patients being transferred to other facilities.

Minister Reilly said the move was aimed at making hospitals more accountable.
