Harris asked to clarify position on Portlaoise Hospital

Health Minister Simon Harris is being asked to clarify his position on downgrade plans for Portlaoise Hospital.

The Hospital Action Committee said news that a draft report on the downgrade is being launched on Thursday without the Minister's approval brings a disturbing twist to the current row over the hospital.

Committee Secretary, John Hanniffy said if the launch goes ahead they will be calling on the people of Laois to stage a mass protest in the capital at 10am on Thursday.

"The draft strategy is the first document that proposed the downgrade of Portlaoise. We are going to protest very vehemently on Thursday to try and stop the launch of this document," he said.

"If this gets away the next one after it will be the downgrade plan itself," he added.
