Gun and ammunition go missing from Naval ship

The Defence Forces have launched an investigation after a gun and a quantity of ammunition were found to be missing from the LE Niamh.

The Defence Forces have launched an investigation after a gun and a quantity of ammunition were found to be missing from the LE Niamh.

Following a routine inspection by the Naval Service yesterday, the pistol, two magazines and 100 rounds of 9 millimetre ammunition were missing.

Both Military Police and Garda investigations into the matter have been launched.

A complete review of security procedures in the Naval Service is currently underway.
