Group reports serious racist incident every week


One serious incident of racism is reported to the Immigrant Council of Ireland every week, but many others go unreported.

New figures for the first seven months of this year indicate 27 cases of serious racism were reported in that time.

Those cases include reports of physical violence, verbal attacks and harassment over the internet or through the post.

Denise Charlton, CEO of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, said the figures are indicative of "a much larger problem in Irish society".
