A new report from Think Tank for Action on Social Change (TASC) has claimed that people who live in a deprived area or work in an unskilled job are more likely to be sick and to die at a younger age.

A new report from Think Tank for Action on Social Change (TASC) has claimed that people who live in a deprived area or work in an unskilled job are more likely to be sick and to die at a younger age.

The independent group has made a series of recommendations to deal with health inequalities in Ireland.

They include new and higher taxes to pay for a single-tier health system.

"The tax measure that have happened to date since the onset of the recession have actually impacted disproportionately on low-income groups" said TASC head of policy Sinead Pentony.

"We think it’s really time that the Government bit the bullet and actually start looking at the top in terms of changes to taxes."
