Grenade made safe in Cork town

An historic grenade found on a private building site in Co Cork was made safe this afternoon.

The corroded grenade was found by a member of the public in Mallow.

It is thought the Mills type grenade dated from the early twentieth century, but did still contain explosive content and was considered dangerous.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team declared it safe shortly before 5pm following a controlled explosion.
