Greens promise to create agency to tackle organised crime
16/01/2007 - 15:22:05The Green Party has promised to create a special agency to deal with organised crime if it is part of the next government.
The move forms part of a crime and justice policy unveiled by the party today.
Speaking at the launch, Green TD Ciaran Cuffe said a specialist agency should be set up to tackle organised crime gangs similar to one already in place in the UK.
He also said the Greens believed there was no need for a new prison at Thornton Hall in north Dublin and that redevelopment of Mountjoy Jail would be a more cost-efficient project.
