Green party renew airport demands
The Green party are renewing demands to halt US military aircraft.
The party is taking part in today's massive protests at Shannon airport - part of it's two pronged pro-neutrality stance.
It wants to voice it's opposition to any military action against Iraq and the use of the airport by the US army, allegedly to transport troops and arms.
Pary Chairman John Gormley says ''We all know that the Governmnet's regulations stating that such planes must be unarmed, not carrying arms, ammunition or explosives and not forming part of a military exercise or operation are being flaunted by the US military at Shannon.
He added ''The Minister for Foriegn Affairs, Brian Cowen, has already admitted, after many denials, that guns are being carried on these aircraft, but expects us to believe that the bullets have been left behind.''
An estimated 1,500 people are to take part in today's protest at Shannon airport, which is to begin at 2 O'Clock.
It is one of several large-scale demonstrations taking place around the globe voicing opposition to a war on Iraq.
