The association representing rank-and-file Gardaí says three officers are being assaulted every day by anti-water charge demonstrators.
The Garda Representative Association says it is concerned that recent protests, particularly in north Dublin, are threatening the personal safety of Gardaí.

It has been reported that one meter installation company, GMC Sierra, has now suspended its works in Dublin as it cannot guarantee the safety of its workers.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton has condemned any violence against Gardaí.
"It is disturbing, I think it is very disappointing," he said.
"I can understand people being upset at the charge, but we certainly have to uphold the law and I hear the gardaí feeling that they're being targeted.
"That's certainly is not the way we should perform.
"But on the wider area, I certainly understand why people find water charges very difficult."
