Govt/hauliers vow to resolve 'supertrucks' issue

The Irish Road Haulage Association has claimed that Transport Minister Seamus Brennan will not implement his planned ban on "supertrucks" in Dublin city centre until alternative routes for the vehicles are found.

The Irish Road Haulage Association has claimed that Transport Minister Seamus Brennan will not implement his planned ban on "super trucks" in Dublin city centre until alternative routes for the vehicles are found.

Mr Brennan was planning to ban all trucks from entering the city once the Dublin Port Tunnel was completed.

However, "super trucks" will not fit into the tunnel and the minister's plans would have effectively banned them from entering Dublin Port altogether.

Speaking after a meeting with Mr Brennan today, IRHA spokesman Jimmy Quinn said: "[The ban] won't be implemented unless there are alternatives found.

"We have undertaken that we will work with the minister to find a way to get around this problem."
