Govt to discuss 'hardship measures' in Irish Water talks

Negotiations between the Coalition Government on the detail of water charges are continuing with the focus now on who will qualify for the remediation package.

Fine Gael and Labour have reached agreement in principle to eliminate a €50 standing charge thatt was expected to apply to all households regardless of usage.

It is understood thousands of households could have their average water bills reduced by €100 per year.

The move is being discussed under "hardship measures" planned by the Government.
