The Abortion Rights Campaign* has said the Government must take action in the abortion debate.
On Tuesday, the case of a pregnant woman on life support, will be brought before the High Court. The woman is clinically dead, and is 17 weeks pregnant.
It has been reported that the woman's parents want life support to be withdrawn, but the equal right to life of the unborn child, as guaranteed in the Constitution, means that doctors have not switched off life support.
Last night the Health Minister Leo Varadkar said it was not the time for discussion about changing Ireland's abortion laws.
However, Abortion Rights Campaign member Cathleen Doherty said the Government should immediately engage with the issues raised by the 8th amendment.
"I don’t think the Government should have steered away from this for as long as they have," she said. "Inaction is not a resolution to the mistakes that have been made."
* The Abortion Rights Campaign aims to promote broad national support for a referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment to the Constitution.
