Govt approves banking inquiry
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Dáil that moves have started to establish a banking inquiry.
Mr Kenny said that Cabinet has initiated powers of inquiry for the Oireachtas to enable the process.
The probe is to examiner the role of banks, auditors and state institutions in the run-up to the bank guarantee.
Mr Kenny promised that state bodies will co-operate fully with the inquiry which will be well resourced.
However, the Taoiseach didn't set a date for the probe, saying that the decision is a matter for the Oireachtas.
He has outlined the main issues the inquiry should tackle.
