Government to bring measures to Cabinet in relation to child protection

Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter has this evening announced that the Government intends to bring two measures within the Criminal Justice Bill to the Cabinet in relation to the roles of the Gardaí and the HSE with regard to child protection.
Firstly, the Bill declares that anyone with any information relating to a criminal offence concerning a child must inform the Gardaí.
The Children's First Bill will also address the role of the HSE, where those who assess children at risk must provide the HSE with information necessary to monitor and provide support to a child who may have been abused.
Minister Shatter has also said the vetting of persons working with children will soon be subjected to the statutory process.
