Government planning to stop children using sunbeds
Sunbed use by under 18s could soon be illegal.
Health Minister Dr James Reilly is planning to introduce a law to ban the practice for young people.
"In particular, I’m very concerned with the use of sunbeds, and we’re bringing forward legislation to address that and make it illegal for children under 18 to use them, unless under medical supervision," said Minister Reilly.
A new campaign was launched today to highlight the dangers of skin cancer, which is mainly caused by UV rays from the sun and sunbeds.
More than 8,000 new cases of the disease were diagnosed in Ireland in 2009, making it the most common form of cancer.
