Government discusses Rip-Off Republic
07/09/2005 - 17:17:06The controversial Rip-off Republic TV programme was discussed at today's meeting of the Cabinet.
A spokesperson for the Government said its main concern is the issue of overcharging, and not the TV series.
However, the spokeswoman confirmed that tapes of the programme will be examined by government departments to see whether the figures presented in the programme ring true.
The four-part television programme, which was fronted by Cork man Eddie Hobbs, considered all areas of Irish life and found that Irish consumers are paying over the odds in taxes and services here.
More than 800,000 people tuned in to watch the final part of the series on Monday night on RTE.
