Government allocate €3m to assist students waiting on grant

The Department of Education has announced a €3 million once-off allocation to the Student Assistance Fund to help 3rd level students who are struggling financially.
However, the Union of Students in Ireland said that the funds are not enough to prevent students dropping out of college.
The extra allocation comes as thousands of first-time applicants are left waiting for money from the centralised grants agency SUSI.
The government anticipates that the extra €3 million will be used to give assistance to 3,000 students who are in financial trouble.
