The Government has started work on legislation to get the inquiry into the IBRC on the right track.
Enda Kenny is to write to Opposition leaders later this week and call a meeting with them to decide on how to proceed.
The Cabinet again discussed the issues for the Commission of Investigation today which include confidentiality, legal privilege and the sheer volume of work to be done.
While several options have been identified, a spokesperson has said the solutions are far from simple and that as none of these options are straightforward, further work is necessary.
Taoiseach Kenny told Opposition leaders in the Dáil he was keen to maximise consensus from them on how to move forward.
“I intend to set as I see it what they are (ways to move forward) for the opposition leaders in writing later this week,” said Kenny.
“I think we then need to meet about that with an opportunity for your views.”
However, with just eight sitting days left in the Dáil before the Christmas break, it now looks increasingly likely that it will be the new year before this issue is dealt with.
