Gormley: 'Unhealthy Cosiness' between politicians and bank bosses continues today

John Gormley and Dan Boyle
Green Party Leader John Gormley said today that there is an unhealthy cosiness between political decision making and financial institutions, which continues to exist to this day.
Mr Gormley's comments come after Green Party Senator Dan Boyle claimed Fianna Fáil were reluctant to bring rogue bankers to account.
Senator Boyle is accusing Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan of taking Irish Nationwide's side during the controversy regarding the €1m bonus payment to its former chief executive Michael Fingleton - a claim which the Finance Minister says amounts to defamation.
Senator Boyle said he received a phone call from the Minister in 2009 in which Brian Lenihan urged him to stop criticising the building society.
"There is too much of a close relationship between those people like .. Mr Fingleton, Mr FitzPatrick, all these people, they were well known personally to many politicians and that, as far as we are concerned, is wrong," said Mr Gormley.
"But there is no question that that closeness, that unhealthy cosiness, continues to exist."
