A five-year-old girl has been seriously injured in Co Galway after the car her family was travelling in was blown across the road by storm force winds.

A five-year-old girl has been seriously injured in Co Galway after the car her family was travelling in was blown across the road by storm force winds.

She was brought Temple St hospital in Dublin where her condition is described as serious. Four other people were taken to University Hospital Galway.

The three-car crash happened at about 7pm yesterday evening on the M6 at Newford, Athenry, Co Galway.

One of the girl's siblings and her mother were also in the car, and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
