Gilmore distances himself from Euro 2012 boycott


The Tánaiste has moved to distance himself from a boycott of the Euro 2012 football tournament being staged by a number of EU politicians.

Senior figures are refusing to attend the tournament because of the alleged mistreatment of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymonshenko, who is in prison in the country.

Eamon Gilmore said that while he had no plans to attend any of the soccer matches in the Ukraine, he could not rule out a visit to the country later this year.
