Gerry Conlon to be laid to rest today
The funeral of the man wrongly jailed for the 1974 Guildford IRA bombing is taking place in Belfast this morning.
Sixty-year-old Gerry Conlon had been ill for some time before passing away from cancer at his home off the Falls Road last weekend.
The Guildford Four were sentenced to life in prison in 1975 for the blasts that killed five people and injured 65.
They were freed in 1989 when the Court of Appeal quashed their sentences, after 14 years behind bars.
Sixteen years later, the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair apologised for the miscarriage of justice.
Mr Conlon's remains are leaving his sister's home for a 10am Requiem Mass in St Peter's Cathedral.
The human rights activist will then be laid to rest in Milltown, where family, friends and those he inspired will say goodbye for the final time.
