Gerry Adams: We need real leadership from Taoiseach in wake of Brexit vote

The Government is being urged to show leadership in the wake of the UK's Brexit vote.

Today marks a month to the day since the country's decision to leave the European Union was announced.

52% of people in the UK voted to leave, but Northern Ireland and Scotland voted to remain.

In the month since the vote Britain has a new Prime Minister and concern has been high about the impact Brexit will have on Ireland.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams says that the Taoiseach Enda Kenny needs to take action to protect the country.

Mr Adams said: "Arlene Foster's negativity is entirely predictable. So what we need is consistency, what we need is real leadership.

"We want to see the possibility of new relationships on the island and if he is up to that then the Taoiseach needs to start examining what contribution those of us in this state can make."
