Free GP care for all by 2016 still Government plan, Minister claims
The junior health minister, Alex White, said the government is still committed to free GP care for everyone by 2016.
White said he's hopeful that free care for children under five years old can be included in this year's Budget.
The coalition has previously committed to offering free GP care for all citizens within the lifetime of the government.
Minister White said free care for children may be agreed as a first step in the wider programme. "One of the approaches is by age cohort," he said.
"There are other approaches that we've looked at as well. I'm confident that we'll make progress on this … I can't be saying what's going to be in the budget, I don't know."
