A demonstration is taking place in Dublin this afternoon as same-sex couples protest against the limitations of the Civil Partnership Bill.
The bill - which was signed into law in June - provides a form of legal recognition for these couples.
But gay activists who have organised today's March for Marriage say it doesn't recognise the existence of same sex-families - and discriminates against the children of same sex couples.
They are demanding full civil marriage rights.
"Civil Partnership excludes LGBT people from a fundamental civil and human right and makes us second-class citizens," according to Max Krzyzanowski of march organisers Noise.
"It does not provide equality for gay people and their families. One of the most outrageous aspects of the partnership scheme is the complete lack of any rights for gay parents and their children."
Today's march will begin at 2pm and starts at City Hall, Dublin.
