Gardaí warn public about phone scam asking for immediate payment of Revenue bill

Gardaí have issued a warning about a telephone scam.

They have said that a caller, who could be male or female, rings and says they are from the Revenue looking for an immediate payment of a tax bill over the phone.

Officers said that the caller may also give a telephone number for you to call back to give your credit card details.

Gardaí have said that this person is not calling from Revenue and the phone call is a scam.

Do NOT give out your credit/debit card, bank account, or PPS Number to anyone who makes contact with you over the phone.

The Gardaí, Revenue, nor any Financial Institution will ever call you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details.

People should be wary of any contact from an unsolicited source, by telephone or email, and anyone who gets a call from someone requesting personal or financial information are advised to end the call and report it to Gardaí at any Garda station or to the Garda Confidential line on 1800-666-111.

For more prevention advice in relation to this matter and all other areas, visit the Garda website, or revenue.ie.
