Gardaí are warning of dangerous driving conditions due to snow in Monaghan this evening.

There has been a heavy fall on the N2 Dublin to Monaghan road.

Driving conditions are described as hazardous.

Met Eireann say that wintry showers will continue in the west and north tonight, some falling as snow in Ulster.

The forecaster says there will be thicker cloud bringing rain to Munster towards midnight, which will move north east overnight.

It is expected to fall as sleet or snow for a time in places as temperatures reach zero degrees with some frost and ice developing.
