Gardaí have said the hoax caller behind this morning's alert at Shannon Airport deserves to go to jail.

Gardaí have said the hoax caller behind this morning's alert at Shannon Airport deserves to go to jail.

A man claiming to be from al-Qaida phoned Aer Lingus to say there were liquid explosives on a flight from New York to Shannon.

Two hundred and thirty nine passengers were interviewed by gardaí after the plane touched down safely.

Nothing was found, and gardaí are have begun attempts to trace the caller.
